Do You Even Lift

Do You Even Lift Bro?

Summer is around the corner and it’s probably a good time to start hitting the gym. You know what they say — no pain, no gain.

Unfortunately, it’s not muscles that are claiming the biggest gains around here. It’s the price of groceries.

A recent study found that the Tampa Bay area has seen one of the highest increases in grocery prices in the entire country, second only to Honolulu. That’s right — we’ve got beach views, humidity thick enough to chew, and now… $6 eggs.

Between March 2024 and March 2025, grocery prices rose a gut-punching 4.3%. Meat, poultry, and fish led the charge with a 7.8% spike, followed by cereals and bakery items at 5.3%, and dairy at 5%. Only fruits and vegetables stayed chill — barely moving with a 0.2% increase (thanks, spinach).

Why the hike? A perfect storm of supply chain issues, truck driver shortages, and our location’s dependence on long-haul deliveries. Basically, your breakfast had to cross more miles than a spring breaker to get to you — and it shows on the receipt.

So while you’re out here tightening your waistline, your wallet is quietly bulking up… with regret.

Hang in there, Southshore. If you’re looking to save a few bucks, now might be the time to finally learn what to do with a lentil.
